New curricular units on Brightspace for 2023/24

The new curricular units for 2023/24 will be available on Brightspace to staff from Thursday 6th July. This will be accompanied by guidance and support on unit preparation for the next academic year.

New unit content layout with ‘Lessons’

For the coming academic year we are moving to the Lessons (v1) content layout for all new units so this means that all 23/24 curricular units will have this content layout applied. For a number of years the Lessons layout has been available on an ‘opt-in’ basis and as the functionality of this layout has been developed we’ve seen it’s use grow each year to around 44% of all units opting in for 2022/23. Pilot studies with the Lessons layout returned positive feedback from both students and staff describing the layout as easier to navigate and easier to prepare content. So moving forward, to provide a consistent and improved experience for students across their units this layout will be rolled out for new curricular units and the former ‘Standard’ layout will be retired.

Student access

Students will have access to units for Semester 1/2/3 one week prior to the start of Semester 1, for the majority of programmes this will be 11th September.

Support and guidance

Learning Technologists will be running some drop-ins to support the rollout of the new units. If you’re not familiar with the Lessons format you can drop into FG04/BG602 or on Zoom at the times listed below with your questions:
