Keith’s research is focussed around sport and identity, health, and the spectator experience. He has examined issues around topics such as racism, national identity, masculinity, and the conflicts between country and culture.
This research has provided him with a deep insight into both the sociology of sport and cultural identity more broadly, particularly through his PhD, which examined the formation of heroes. He provides regular media commentary, appearing on international television and radio including BBC News, ABC News (Australia) and Men’s Health.
He has also written for various online outlets, including The Conversation and News.com.au and is an award-winning writer, receiving a UN Day Media Award for a co-authored media piece: Pushing casual sport to the margins threatens cities’ social cohesion.
