Issue: Turnitin voice comments and ‘refreshing’ mark

We are currently aware of two issues affecting marking and feedback with Turnitin assignments. Both of these issues are currently being investigated by the software providers with an aim to get fixes in place as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Voice comments must be recorded using Firefox or Safari browsers

Issue

We currently have an issue with Turnitin voice comments where audio feedback that has been recorded after 25 November using Chrome or Edge browsers will be distorted when played back.

Workaround

Until this issue is resolved, you must use the Firefox or Safari (Mac) browser when recording Turnitin voice comments. Note that when using Firefox on a BU device, you will get a warning when you log into Brightspace that the browser is out of date, for the purpose of recording Turnitin voice comments only, this warning can be ignored. For any other activities we would still advise that you use a compatible browser.
If you have recorded Turnitin voice comments recently we advise that you check a few of your recordings to make sure they are ok. Unfortunately if your recordings have been affected by this issue they cannot be fixed and must be re-recorded.

‘Refreshing…’ mark displays on assignment submission page

Issue

Normally Turnitin marks recorded in the Turnitin Feedback Studio are displayed on the Brightspace assignment submissions page, currently ‘Refreshing…’ is displayed instead of the mark value. At present mark values can only be viewed (prior to mark release) per paper by viewing the paper in Turnitin or clicking the ‘Draft saved’ link to view the mark in Brightspace. This does not affect the saving of the mark or publishing of the mark to Gradebook when marks are released to students.  This issue has been raised with D2L (Brightspace provider) who are currently preparing a fix.

Workaround

As an indicator of which papers have been marked (in the Turnitin Feedback Studio), ‘Draft saved’ and the date of the last save is displayed on the assignment submissions page.
