Upcoming workshops to support unit preparation

FLIE will be running a series of workshops through September and into semester one to support you with your teaching and learning for the next academic year. All sessions will be online. No need to sign up; links will be made available via our Workshops and Drop ins page or simply click on the links below at the date and time to attend.

New to Brightspace or want a quick recap?

If you’re new to Brightspace, have any new colleagues joining BU, or just want a quick recap on the basics, join us for a session on Brightspace for New Starters. We’ll look at some of the basic functionality, how to navigate Brightspace and where to go for further help and guidance.

Brightspace for new Starters
Monday 5th September 12.00-13.00

Using Mentimeter in your teaching

At BU we have an institutional licence for Mentimeter, an online polling tool which can add an interactive element to your lectures and presentations whether they’re online or face-to-face. Mentimeter has a wide range of question types that can be used for icebreakers, checking knowledge, gauging opinion or prompting debate.

Mentimeter will be delivering two sessions on the tool and its application; a session for beginners on the basics for those wanting to refamiliarise themselves with the tool and a session promoting some of the more advanced functionality and how you might use it in your teaching. Bring along any general Mentimeter questions and they will be happy to answer them.

Mentimeter webinar: Beginners
Thursday 8th September 15.00-16.00

Mentimeter webinar: Advanced
Thursday 15th September 13.00-14.00

Faculty sessions

Look out for planned Faculty workshops in your calendar for the week commencing 12th September. These sessions will  look at resources to support you with your unit preparation for the new academic year including the revised Digital Pedagogies Framework, sharing examples of unit design layouts, and an opportunity to bring any questions you have in relation to Brightspace or other digital tools.

For any further help, please contact your Faculty Learning Technologist.

how can I transfer unit content wholesale from one year to another, to save a lot of time?

Hi Jim, we would always advocate being selective when copying content across units as a lot of information won’t be required (for example the gradebook). You can however lift multiple pieces of content across at a time. You can find guidance in the Brightspace Staff Resources area under Preparing your Units for 2022/2023 on how to do this.

      best regards, Tracey
