Fiona’s expertise lies in bringing a relational exchange approach, increasingly adopted within the commercial and not-for-profit sectors, to enhance the student experience. Her teaching is within the areas of relationship marketing and word-of-mouth communication. Her teaching focusses on Relationship Marketing, and her institutional leadership embraces student research, sustainability and alumni relations working with academic and professional services colleagues to deliver best practice in these realms.
Fiona’s focus is on a relational, collaborative and co-created strategy. This approach is based on thinking about interactions within Higher Education and is informed by a desire to maintain and enhance connections between students, alumni, academics and their institutions. The academic-student relationship is at the heart of her thinking and practice as an educator.
Fiona has worked with student representatives and staff to implement a problem resolution strategy and to create the Student Charter for BU. Fiona’s most recent research explores students’ commitment to their education and the role of gratitude within higher education.
