Upcoming workshops to support unit preparation

FLIE will be running a series of workshops through September and into semester one to support you with your teaching and learning for the next academic year. All sessions will be online. No need to sign up; links will be made available via our Workshops and Drop ins page or simply click on the links below at the date and time to attend.

New to Brightspace or want a quick recap?

If you’re new to Brightspace, have any new colleagues joining BU, or just want a quick recap on the basics, join us for a session on Brightspace for New Starters. We’ll look at some of the basic functionality, how to navigate Brightspace and where to go for further help and guidance.

Brightspace for new Starters
Monday 5th September 12.00-13.00

Looking to get some interactivity into your teaching?

At BU we have an institutional licence for Mentimeter, an online polling tool which can add an interactive element to your lectures and presentations whether they’re online or face-to-face. Mentimeter has a wide range of question types that can be used for icebreakers, checking knowledge, gauging opinion or prompting debate. The lovely folks at Mentimeter will be delivering two sessions on the tool and its application; a session for beginners on the basics or those wanting to refamiliarise themselves with the tool and a session promoting some of the more advanced functionality and how you might use it in your teaching. Bring along your general Mentimeter questions and they will be happy to answer them.

Mentimeter webinar: Beginners
Thursday 8th September 15.00-16.00

Mentimeter webinar: Advanced
Thursday 15th September 13.00-14.00

Using the Awards tool in Brightspace

Have you thought about incorporating online badges into your unit activities? Badges are a great way to celebrate student excellence, acknowledge milestones or recognise accomplishments. For example, the completion of formative learning activities or engagement with unit content such as discussion forums. Join this session to discover how to foster and monitor engagement on your unit using online badges.

Future dates

This summer we will be upgrading our self and peer assessment tool uGrade so look out for a workshop later in the year to demonstrate the improvements the upgrade brings to the tool. As we approach marking season, we’ll be running a session on how to get the most out of Turnitin and understanding the similarity report function. And look out for planned Faculty workshops running in July and September to support you with your unit preparation.

All our workshops will be advertised here on the FLIE Blog and on the Workshops and Drop ins page
