Yugin is a researcher in contemporary literature and film, with expertise and publications on the British author and Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro, memory, and science fiction. His work has expanded into representations of nostalgia, dementia, and the role of robot carers in fiction. He is currently a co-editor for a special issue on nostalgia for the journal Science Fiction Studies.
Yugin has written for the Times Higher Education and is a member of the British Association for Contemporary Literary Studies (BACLS) Executive Committee.
