What do Professors do in the summer?

This summer I was delighted to be invited to give a keynote at Liverpool Hope University;and was keen to get onto the interactive part of the session, where we would be trying out various augmented reality tools. So how to get across the policy background? The answer was twitter -by preparing a series of tweets around the policy documents and reports I wanted to share as the background, and using ‘Hootsuite’, a tool where tweets can be scheduled. Running up to event, and then on the day, twitter automatically sent out the materialsto the conference hasghtag #BLHope my own twitter account @debbieholley1 and to the CEL twitter account @CEL_BU

Keynote title: Think outside the lecture – blended learning and how to do it.

Abstract:

This talk will explore the challenges of developing and mapping student (and staff) digital literacies; a plethora of policies, strategies and frameworks awaits those keen to embrace the blending of learning. These range from UK Government Policy documents, institutional learning and teaching strategies to amazing innovation through Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs). Meanwhile, back in our classrooms, how can we innovate, excite and encourage our students against a complex and often contested set of policy initiatives? Debbie will encourage us to augment our classroom realities (please download Zappar onto your mobile devices if you would like to take part), introduce us to her Learning Excellence Acceleration Programme (LEAP) and offer ideas to offer alternatives for all our students, as happened this year when, in Bournemouth there was snow on the beach for the first time in 20 years and the campus was shut because of bad weather. Dr Debbie Holley is the Professor of Learning Innovation and the Head of the Centre for Excellence in Learning at Bournemouth University. A passionate educator, she is a National Teaching Fellow and Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. A JISC ‘Digital Expert’, she leads on digital innovation to encourage students to blend and personalise their learning inside and outside the formal classroom.
