What’s new from FLIE for 24/25?

5 pots with seedling growing largerAs we welcome everyone back after the summer break 😎, we wanted to spotlight some of the enhancements that have been implemented for AY 24/25.

Updated Attendance capture system

The Jisc Learning Analytics system has been upgraded with further enhancements to support you with attendance capture and when viewing student reports. Join one of our online training sessions (running via Teams) where you can find out how to take attendance and how to view student and unit data on the new platform. No need to sign up, just join at the time that suits you – view the timetable of sessions on our Workshops and drop-ins page.

Standardised Coursework Brief template and updated Assessment module

In response to student feedback, there is now a standardised single coursework brief to improve the clarity of assessments for students, including four AI levels which you delete as appropriate to clarify for students where and how generative AI tools can be used with the assessment. As part of this process, you’ll notice detailed assessment ‘Help and Support’ now shared under the default Assessment module on all units.

Improved Panopto video assignment submissions

Panopto has been updated and now provides a more robust submission process, making it clear for students that they are uploading a panopto assignment and preventing any further editing after submission.

Changes to Brightspace

New weekly content template

We’ve created a new HTML template layout for use with your weekly content to support unit design and help give your units a professional feel – choose from a new two or three tab layout. A new Announcements widget on the home page aggregates all the Announcements for students across their units in one place. And you’ll notice Brightspace modules now have a reduced colour bar to avoid accessibility challenges.

And still to come…

Coming later in the year – a Search tool for Brightspace will facilitate searching of unit materials, and some of the tools which used to open up in new tabs, such as quizzes, will display inline with the existing content.
