It’s the start of a new academic year and the FLIE team have been busy beavering away over the summer. Here are a few updates we would like to share with you.
Updated Digital Pedagogies Framework
Now in its third iteration, the Digital Pedagogies Framework continues to evolve to meet the learning and teaching requirements and needs of our staff and students. The current themes incorporate feedback from students and staff to further enhance pedagogical practices. The framework and accompanying checklist have been devised to support you in the design and delivery of your Brightspace units and offer a new interface and structure to enhance excellence in our education practices.

Software updates
The Mahara ePortfolio system has been upgraded to the latest version. Mahara is a great tool for students to demonstrate evidence of their skills and professional development, as well as providing a space to reflect on their learning. You can find everything you need to know about the tool in our guidance – Mahara ePortfolio
LinkedIn Learning provides thousands of video-based courses, particularly in relation to skills development. And due to our updated integration with Brightspace, it’s easy to embed the content in your units or communities. Student engagement is also now tracked in the Content Usage Report and Class Progress, available under the Analytics link in the unit nav bar. Follow our step-by-step guidance on embedding LinkedIn Learning content – LinkedIn Learning
And still to come…
We’re trialling a News and Tips carousel on the Brightspace homepage. Bitesize content will be updated monthly in an effort to keep you informed of key news and information in relation to Brightspace and FLIE activity. We welcome your feedback on the tool!
The FLIE webpages have been updated over the summer and are due to go live shortly, highlighting the areas where the Centre for Fusion Learning Innovation and Excellence can help and support you.
We’ve also revamped the Brightspace Online Training area on Brightspace, with fresh modules and new video guidance, so look out for more details on when this becomes available.
And you’ll have seen in recent communications that MUSE (Mid-unit Student Evaluation survey) is to be replaced with a new survey taking place towards the end of units. More details to follow.

We had a bit of a reshuffle in the Learning Technology team back in the summer due to some staff changes and we’ve recently welcomed Joy Guevarra who joins us in a project LT role. Your dedicated Faculty Learning Technologist and the rest of the team look forward to working with you 🙂
