Follow the 5th Liverpool Hope Blended Learning Symposium #BLHope: Prof Debbie Holley giving a keynote

On Monday 16th July, Professor Debbie Holley will be giving a keynote at the  5th Blended Learning Symposium run by Liverpool Hope University. The keynote and all the other events can be followed on twitter #BLHope or we will be tweeting from @CEL_BU

Below is the abstract for her talk, Developing and Mapping Student Digital literacy and capability. 

Debbie Holley’s talk will explore the challenges of developing and mapping student (and staff) digital literacies; a plethora of policies, strategies and frameworks awaits those keen to embrace the blending of learning. These range from UK Government Policy documents (cf House of Lords Make or Break – the UKs digital future 2015); the EU Digicomp framework 2.0 relaunched in 2017; the JISC digital literacies framework); Institutional Learning and Teaching strategies to amazing innovation through Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) such as the future learn https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/blended-learning-getting-started and the E-Learning and Digital Culture MOOC run by Sian Bayne and her team at the University of Edinburgh currently experimenting with automated teaching bots.

Meanwhile, back in our classrooms, how can we innovate, excite and encourage our students against a complex and often contested set of policy initiatives? Debbie will encourage us to augment our classroom reality (please download Zappar onto your mobile devices if you would like to take part); introduce us to her Learning Excellence Acceleration Programme (LEAP) and offer ideas to offer alternatives for all of our students, as happened this year when, in Bournemouth there was snow on the beach for the first time in 20 years and the campus was shut because of bad weather…

Debbie is the Professor of Learning Innovation and the Head of the Centre for Excellence in Learning at Bournemouth University. A passionate educator, she is a National Teaching Fellow and Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. A JISC ‘Digital Expert’, she leads on digital innovation to encourage students to blend and personalise their learning inside and outside the formal classroom. Internationally her work is acknowledged through her research into the student experience and education futures.
