CEL Education for Sustainable Development Teaching Award 2018 – Now open for applications!
Images of plastics in the environment are dominating the headlines. What do you see in this photograph that you could use, or are already using, to educate your students about the UN Sustainable Development Goals? Depending on your viewpoint:
What are the health implications of not having access to clean drinking water?
Will a money back scheme help solve plastic bottle pollution?
What are the top brands doing to help reduce single use plastic?
What is the environmental damage caused by plastic pollution?
ESD and BU2025
Professor Debbie Holley, Head of CEL said, “Last year we ran the second Sustainable Development teaching award and received some great examples of what you are doing to inspire our students to learn and think about the world around them and how they can make a difference. We look forward to welcoming our sustainability award winners at our afternoon prize giving on the 13th June, where they will join us celebrating excellent learning and teaching across BU”.
We have embedded sustainability in BU2025 and the strategy requires, ‘All academic departments align their programmes with the challenges facing society and the world and all our departments, professional services and cross-BU align co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities with those challenges’.
The UN Sustainable Development Goals underpinned the development of the strategy and provide a road map for tackling the grand challenges facing society (http://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/).
