CEL two year secondments for ‘Education Excellence’ theme leaders (internal only)

Come and work with us! Funded secondments two days a week, in roles that provide an exceptional opportunity to develop leadership skills, the ability to influence colleagues and a body of work across the University, supporting the achievement of corporate goals as we move towards BU2025. These roles require academics who possess a demonstrable track record of best practice in education approaches and techniques, coupled with the ability to support, guide and mentor staff in their chosen theme area.

This is what our existing theme leaders say:

Anne Quinney

The Theme Leader role has given me the opportunity to develop and share my interest in assessment and feedback more widely, and to work collaboratively with colleagues across the university.I have  enjoyed the creative energy generated when working with, and learning from, colleagues from other disciplines. The work I’ve undertaken has led to a positive change in university policy, for example the new BU Generic Assessment Criteria now incorporate feed-forward statements; and the role has created new opportunities to work with external world-leading scholars.

David Biggins

Working in CEL is a fantastic way to develop your own teaching and learning practice because you are continually acquiring and developing skills in your theme. The theme leader role gives you the opportunity to make a significant contribution to teaching and learning at BU. The theme leader role is truly fused because you are fully engaged in the professional practice of education, able to help academic staff to develop their own education practice and supported to research and publish. If you are passionate about education, the theme leader is a wonderful way to inspire others with your enthusiasm.
I wouldn’t think twice before re-applying to be a CEL theme leader again.

Carly Lamont

Working with such a supportive and generous CEL team has been a great experience. There is a constant sense of excitement and challenge underpinned by a solid foundation of shared expertise, knowledge and good practice.

The opportunities the Theme Leader role provides are endless, not least the sense of making a contribution to the fusion of research, teaching and practice across programmes, departments and faculties within BU. It has been wonderful connecting with and meeting colleagues from different disciplines whilst exploring their experiences (and sometimes challenges) relating to enhancing the employability prospects of our students.

Closing date Wednesday 26th April (midnight) – interviews before end of May
