Horizon2020

Debbie Holley went along to the stunning British Academy building in London for a Horizon 2020 briefing day about social science and research. Calls are already well documented, insert link, but keynote speaker Phillippe Keruafran, Deputy Head of Unit Research and Innovation, traveling from Brussels to give his talk, encouraged social scientists to look carefully at all the calls, especially calls ‘flagged’ as needing a social science input. Further advice Helen Dewberry, the UK contact with the Commission was to start with Challenge 6, but also emphasising interdisciplinary research teams, well written impact statements, using national contacts for guidance, and emphasising innovation and end-user work. Calls 2015/16 and 2016/17 are larger than previous, between 2.5 and 5 million Euros, so a longer lead in time for assembling partners is essential.
