Student satisfaction at Bournemouth University has risen by 3% in the independent 2016 National Student Survey (NSS) to 82% – the highest ever figure that BU has achieved since the NSS survey began in 2005. The national sector average has remained at 86%.
The NSS, run by Ipsos MORI, surveys final year students across the UK and looks at both overall satisfaction and individual course satisfaction. Alongside the overall increase in satisfaction at BU there has been an increase in satisfaction at course level that has seen 19 courses rating above the sector average this year compared to 15 last year. Overall the 2016 survey shows BU has a total of 22 courses with student satisfaction at or above the sector average, from a total of 47 that data is provided for. Three courses achieved a 100% satisfaction rating in 2016 – BSc (Hons) Children’s and Young people’s Nursing, BA (Hons) Events and Leisure Marketing and BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy. The 2016 results see BU rise by 13 places compared year-on-year to other Higher Education institutions across the UK – to 106 overall from 119 in 2015.
Commenting on the increase in student satisfaction John Vinney, Vice-Chancellor of Bournemouth University said;
“This is encouraging news and reflects on the hard work of staff at BU to improve all areas of the student experience. Our investments in Fusion along with further investments in academic staff have combined well with our focus on service excellence. Alongside this I believe we are seeing the impact of an improved quality in the campus environment for students and staff from our ongoing programme of investment in new facilities, such as the new purpose built Student Centre that opened last year and our new Fusion academic building which will be operational for students from September. There is still more work to do to further enhance student experience at BU and to continue to progress towards our BU 2018 vision to be a top 50 UK university.”
