Graduation Ceremonies have been taking place all week CELebrating the fantastic achievements of our students. In particular, one student from the Faculty of Management was selected to participate in the 2015 series of The Apprentice.
Jenny Garbis, a BA (Hons) Business Studies with Finance student, not only achieved a First in her degree but was selected (from a pool of 80,000 applicants) as one of eighteen candidates competing to win a business partnership with Sir Alan Sugar. Such an achievement is not only a reflection on Jenny’s ability but also the calibre of students we ‘cultivate’ and develop here at BU.
As Jenny’s Programme Coordinator during 2014/15, Jenny confided in me to help support her in completing the final year of her studies whilst she was involved in the show. Having been sworn to total secrecy, it was such a relief when the candidates were finally announced the day before the programme went on air and I could finally share the good news about her accomplishments.
At Graduation today, I was able to meet Jenny again and catch up on her news. We chatted about her current job and all the opportunities that seem to be coming her way. Participating in the series has certainly opened many doors but she has maintained a clear vision of where she wants to be in the future. For now, Jenny intends to be very selective over the steps she takes along her career path and to make the most of all the experience gained on her journey. We wish her every success.
