The Academic Integrity webinar series continues with the topic of artificial intelligence; Beatriz Moya and Leeanne Morrow will lead the talk ‘Foundational Literacies and Academic Integrity Skills: Ideas for Student Support in an Artificial Intelligence Era’, engaging its audience on the potential of these tools and delving into detail on skills that can help curb the threat to academic integrity. “The emergence of algorithmic writing technologies capable of producing text from scratch or with little input has disrupted the post-secondary education context and become an invitation for educators to rethink their teaching, learning, and assessment practices. In this webinar, we will invite participants to discuss some limitations and capabilities of these new tools, their potential implications for academic integrity, and explore some recommendations to develop students’ foundational literacies and academic integrity skills in ways that could prevent potential threats to academic integrity. Participants will also have opportunities to share their questions, insights, and recommendations.”

Beatriz Moya, Leeanne Morrow
Beatriz Moya is a Ph.D. candidate in the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary in the Educational Research program, specializing in Leadership. Her primary motivation as a student researcher is to contribute to the continuous transformation of higher education institutions’ cultures to pursue academic and research integrity and social justice. Beatriz Antonieta Moya situates herself at the intersections of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), Leadership, and Academic Integrity. In this space, she is currently involved in projects seeking to contribute to a ‘glocal’ scholarly dialogue concerning academic integrity as a teaching and learning imperative.
Leeanne Morrow is currently the Associate University Librarian for Student Learning and Engagement for Libraries and Cultural Resources at the University of Calgary. She leads the innovative staff working in the Learning Commons, Digital Strategies and the Liaison Librarian team. In addition to teaching sessions for students who have academic misconduct challenges on campus she works with K-12 programs in and around Calgary to teach both student and teachers about academic integrity in the post secondary environment. She has an MLIS from the University of Alberta and a BA in Art History from the University of Calgary.
