Challenging corruption and malpractice in academic publishing and dissemination is crucial, because reliability of academic publications, and presentations at conferences and in the media, provide fundamental building blocks for innovative research. The recent unprecedented rise in the number of retractions affecting major and highly reputable scientific publishers provides an indication of the scale of the problem affecting academia. As this is a global phenomenon, a global response is needed.
This presentation will explore factors and policies that are driving and motivating unethical conduct in academic publishing and dissemination, leading towards a global action plan.
