TEL-related seminars in semester 2

CEL are planning a number of TEl-related events in the coming semester.  Topics, dates and venues are in the list below.

We will be managing attendance through EventBrite and will send links to these in separate posts and on Twitter soon.

We look forward to seeing you at one (or more!) of the events.

Wed 10 Feb 11-12         PG30a              TEL toolkit – what is it and why would I use it?

This session introduces you to the TEL Toolkit, how to access it and how it can contribute to your teaching and learning.  The digital skills self-assessment questionnaire, which aims to measure your confidence in using TEL tools, is also covered.

Thu 18 Feb 2-3              PG30a              Using social media in teaching and learning

With many students engaging with social media, this session provides an introduction and description of some of the tools available: Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Whatsapp and Periscope.

Wed 16 Mar 11-12         PG30a              Augmented reality

Augmented integrates digital information with live video or the user’s environment in real time and can be a powerful engagement technique for students.  Come along for a demonstration of AR and to see how you might be able to use it to support your teaching and learning.

Tue 12 Apr 12-1             EBC                 Getting the most out of myBU

myBU is central to the way we deliver content and interface with students.  This session covers the core features of myBU for example announcements, your contact details, learning modules and provides links in to the TEL Toolkit to other features that you can use

Tue 19 Apr 2-3               PG30a              TEL tools to help student engagement

The aim of this session is to provide an overview of 6 – 10 tools that can help with student engagement.  Drawn from the TEL Toolkit, the session will give you a taster of the tools available, explain their support for engagement and provide ideas for other tools you could consider in the future.

Mon 25 Apr 12-1            PG30a              Using Peerwise for research methods and academic writing

Creating and answering multiple choice questions is an effective way to create and verify learning and engage students.  This session looks at the 500 pre-prepared question on academic writing / referencing and 500 questions on research methods that you can release to students using the free Peerwise application.
