Jacqueline Priego is presenting at the Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences – get in touch for potential collaborations.
This week, CEL’s Jacqueline Priego is travelling to Medellin, Colombia, to present at the VII Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences, Organised by the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO). This event, which this year focuses on ‘Democratic transformations, social justice and peace processes’, has education as one of its key focuses, given CLACSO’s close association with UNESCO. It brings together academics, policy-makers and representatives from multilateral organisations to discuss the current state of social sciences in Latin America. Keynote speakers for this year include former heads of state Luiz Inácio ‘Lula’ da Silva (Brazil) and José Mujica (Uruguay), as well as renown professors Arturo Escobar and Anibal Quijano.
Having been invited and funded by CLACSO, Jacqueline will be presenting findings from the ‘Underground Sociabilities’ project, where she worked before joining BU. Underground sociabilities is a research and knowledge exchange scheme directed by Professor Sandra Jovchelovitch (LSE), funded by the charitable foundations of Brazilian bank Itaú, and aligned with UNESCO’s Management of Social Transformations (MOST) programme. It explored the routes of socialisation fostered by the work of community-based organisations in Rio de Janeiro’s favelas, and the possibilities for application of their model of work in other contexts.
