So you’re either an A-level or equivalent student who has never heard of Bournemouth and have no idea where it is, or you made the leap and have decided to put it as one of your choices of university, OR you could be anywhere between those two situations. Basically, whether you have heard about it or not here’s a quick blog of what you can do while you’re here in Bournemouth, whether for a day trip, the weekend, or here for the long haul of 3/4 years while you complete your degree. Hopefully, you’ll get the chance to try some of these things.
Obvious, but not to be understated! Bournemouth has an award-winning beach (with imported sand) so good that it’ll make you feel as if you have been transported away to the Bahamas. Don’t forget, it’s not just Bournemouth Beach, there’s also Branksome and Sandbanks.
- The Oceanarium
Located on the doorstep of the beach, the aquarium is home to over 150 species of underwater creatures and takes you through an underwater journey exploring the various creatures.
- The Vintage Market
It comes round about once a month at the Bournemouth Pavilion and if you have timed it perfectly and you happen to be in the area when it’s happening, go and have a mooch, this is probably the best place to grab a bargain and get some really cool vintage stuff which I’m sure, like a good ol’ denim jacket, will always be in style.
My absolute favourite ice-cream parlour that does the best sundaes, gelato, waffles, crepes and just about anything you’ve ever dreamed of. Give it a try!
- Splashdown
If you don’t want to go to the beach but would like to still have fun in the water, this indoor waterpark is just down the road in Poole for an awesome family friendly activity and also for those “big kids!”
- Bournemouth Zip Wire (PierZip)
Want something that will get the adrenaline going? Fancy doing a zip wire across Bournemouth Pier to the shore? This 30 second adventure will provide thrill and excitement and should not be missed!
Yes I know, it’s not Christmas anymore, but if you do find yourself down here at that time of the year, make sure you have a look around, the atmosphere is buzzing and if you’re feeling too cold just grab some mulled wine to warm you up while listening to the live music playing in the square.
- Have a walk around Bournemouth Gardens
Take a casual stroll through the beautiful 3km long gardens where you can see the aviary, the squirrels and play a game of mini golf! If you’re lucky there may even be live music playing on the bandstand.
- SkyBar (LEVEL8IGHT)
Looking for something more classy and elegant? Well the brand spanking new Hilton Hotel offers just that, the new SkyBar is becoming a rapidly popular bar overlooking Bournemouth and even the English Channel. A lovely atmosphere for evening drinks!
- The Bournemouth Balloon
Okay, so I understand that this is a very long list and there’s a lot to see, so if you have run out of time but still want to see Bournemouth jump on the balloon, and this way you can see the stunning panoramic view of Bournemouth for 20 miles. Tip, don’t go on this soon after lunch!
So these are the top 10 things I would suggest you do at Bournemouth, hopefully you get through them and even do more. Good luck!

This is the right blog for anyone who really wants to understand this topic.
You know so much its almost hard to argue with you (not that
I personally will need to…HaHa). You certainly put a brand new spin on a subject which
has been written about for a long time. Wonderful stuff, just excellent!
