Brightspace is a tool that you will use daily as a student at BU. Personally, I find that brightspace includes a lot of useful links that help me with my studies.

To access your Brightspace and find more information, you can click the link here:

Brightspace’s top bar section are one of the most important features. It is a general section for students to get library and study support, access the careers centre, and other helpful links.

The My Progress tab shows your overall progress in Brightspace, it will show you what materials you have accessed and provide a summary of your discussions and learning.

The Library and Study Support is where you can get a lot of tips and information provided by the BU Library. My favourite feature is the referencing and plagiarism section found under the Study Skills tab. It gives an easy guide on referencing your work.

The careers and employability tab will lead you to a page where you will access the careers support team that the university provides. This includes MyCareerhub where you can get help for your CV, for interviewing, and information on the Global Talent Programme (GTP) Program.

More useful links and further help in using Brightspace can also be found in this section.

All your units and modules will be laid out when you open Brightspace. You will be able to see the units you will be taking, and once you go to second or third year you will still be able to access old units. As a second year, I found ‘pinning’ my current modules to be helpful as it’s easier to find.

Amongst each unit you will be taken to a page where all the content, announcements and more will be available. This will be where you submit your assignments and receive your grades and feedback.

Content is where your lecturers will provide an introduction of the unit, weekly lectures slides and other information that will be important for your lessons.

The communications tab will include any zoom links, discussion forums, the chat section and more.

You will also be able to access your reading list for the unit here.

Brightspace includes other features such as your email notifications, Turnitin draft checker, and a toolkit section to help students settle in and be supported.

Hopefully this guide will be able to help you find your way around Brightspace. It is important to familiarise yourself with it to make your learning a smoother process.
