Hi! My name is JC and I’m a Canadian currently doing my Masters in Maritime Archaeology at Bournemouth University. Before I came to England, I wasn’t sure what I would find in my flat. I had ideas from what I found online, but that was about it. I am currently living on the seventh floor of Corfe house. As a Postgrad student, you get more storage space than the undergrads.

My Room

I have a four-foot bed; this isn’t quite a double, but very close, so double sheets will only be a little loose. There is storage space under the entire bed. I have a long desk that takes up a whole wall, with a dresser that has three drawers. I also have what I would call a night stand with two shelves. I have another shelving unit mounted on the wall which has two large shelves and three small shelves. Moreover, I have a large cupboard with room to hang my clothes and a top cupboard for items I don’t use on a regular basis. And finally, I have a large board that I can pin pictures, drawings, letters and calendars to – or whatever I want.

Ensuite

My ensuite bathroom includes a standing shower, sink and toilet, with a hanging rack and hook. The shower is quite small, and I’ve accidently knocked the door open a few times, but you get used to it. There are a few small shelves to store your toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, etc. There is also a light with a plug for your shaver or blow dryer as it’s a two prong plug only.

Where to Get Things

I went and bought some hangers from Poundland. If you wanted to get sheets and towels, Asda is a great place – it’s the equivalent of Walmart, found in North America. I also decided to buy a laundry basket from Amazon and a drying rack from Wilcox. The best thing I can recommend is to shop around a bit if you’re tight on cash and to not necessarily bring everything from home. It could be easier and cheaper to buy things here, rather than paying for more suitcases or for overweight ones.
