Across Lansdowne Campus, we have two main buildings that are used during our theory blocks; Bournemouth Gateway Building (BGB) and the Executive Business Center. Within these are multiple seminar rooms and are close to takeaway locations to grab a snack between sessions! At BGB, we have the Weston Library, where you will find lots of textbooks related to your area of study. There will often also be decorations for upcoming events, like this skeleton for Halloween recently. There is also the Wolfson Lecture Theatre, which spans across the first and second floor, and this includes modern equipment. 

As well as our time at university studying theory, as Health and Social Care students, we spend a lot of our time on placement. Therefore, it is vital for us to start gaining skills and confidence before starting these and the facilities at Lansdowne Campus provide multiple opportunities for us to do so. At BGB, we have multiple simulation suites that replicate environments commonly found for each area of study, where we have dedicated time to put theory into practice. 

For our Nursing degrees, we have 3 simulation wards, which contain life-like mannequins to practise skills such as insertion of Nasogastric Tubes and taking observations. In addition to the 3 simulation wards, Midwifery students also have access to a Simulation Birthing Ward. Within this ward, students have access to a specialist mannequin that can simulate giving birth, giving opportunities to practice skills required during labour and the immediate post-natal period.

For Operating Department Practice Students during our Anaesthesia and Surgery theory blocks, we have a fully simulated Operating Theatre. This includes an anaesthetic machine and multiple pieces of surgical equipment. For Recovery theory blocks, we also spend time in the simulation wards for injection practice.

Paramedic Science students frequently use the Simulated Ambulance and Projectors to work through situations they might commonly encounter, such as car accidents. Physiotherapy students spend time in the Plinth Room with full-size skeletons for anatomy and physiology lectures. Additionally, Occupational Therapy and Social Work Students have access to a Simulation Home to learn in the environments they will be working in.

Away from studying, Lansdowne Campus offers lots of places to spend the weekend, enjoy the nightlife and explore the rest of the UK. This includes The Old Fire Station, which is our main location for nightlife and where the majority of Freshers’ Events are held each year!

Very close to BGB, you can find cafes and takeaways, such as Starbucks, Subway and Papa Johns. We also have Sprinkles Gelato, which sells a range of drinks and ice cream and is always popular during the spring and summer months.

Around a 20 minute walk will bring you into the centre of Bournemouth, where there are multiple places to relax, go shopping or grab something to eat. One of the highlights is Pause Cat Cafe, where you can enjoy lunch and play with the rescue cats that the cafe has. Lots of students enjoy heading out to relax after a week of studying or to meet up with friends.

A 5-minute walk from BGB will bring you to Bournemouth Train Station, where you will have quick transport to other cities. It’s perfect for quick trips to other cities, such as Southampton, or even weekends out in London!
