To be one of a group who wear pink shirts as “Student Ambassadors” for Bournemouth University is not easy, but there are some nice advantages behind the position. And straight from my experience, Yes! First of all this job is definitely well paid above the average hourly rate for other part time jobs and the schedule is flexible around your studies. Some student ambassador jobs you might get up to £12 or £15 per hour.

Beside the “money money” subject, there’s also a great opportunity to learn and improve new skills from the job. For example, I improved my speaking and presenting skills from running campus tours. We have to show that we are confident and full of information to present positively to those students and parents who are interest in study in Bournemouth University. From a staff job at a UCAS event last week, I learned how to managed events, the way they allocate work, time management, the way the team flow people in the same direction to avoid street blocking and much more. I developed organisational skills when I worked as an administrator in the Marketing and communication department, which was a totally new experience and I know it will benefit me in the future. I had a great experience about Facebook advert from Facebook Thai translation campaign. This job made me realise how to create effective messages within 25 characters for the heading and 90 characters for the body text, surely it’s not easy!! But highly challenging!!

However, the obvious perk of the student ambassador job is it’s fun, you can socialise, get to know new people from many countries who study in both undergrad and postgrad, be involved in team work, event planning and marketing communications. I’m now in placement season looking for a placement job and I’m proud to put all of these jobs that I’ve worked as a student ambassador in my CV. All these job could highlight my CV and show that I developed many basic skills and it could make my CV more outstanding among other candidates.
