Bournemouth University Global Festival of Learning ASEAN 2017
The Global Festival of Learning is our way of celebrating learning and knowledge. Although this is only the second Global Festival of Learning it is already attracting much attention and this year we focus on some of the more pressing issues that are being faced globally.We have arranged a fantastic programme of keynotes, plenary sessions and cultural activities, covering topics ranging from tourism & business, marketing, science and journalism, social interactions, and leadership and innovative learning. We look forward to engaging and sharing thoughts with colleagues and people during the Festival and experiencing the fantastic programme of social and cultural activities arranged for us by our wonderful hosts. The Global Festival of Learning is more than just an event – it is how BU works closely with our valued partners to co-create impact with communities and regions across the globe. We are confident that you will meet like-minded people, create new ideas, share common professional ground, inspire others and celebrate the joy of learning so that the Festival is both stimulating and rewarding. The programme takes place this year in Indonesia – one of the largest economies in Southeast Asia (Jakarta, 27th & 28th March), and Penang, Malaysia – the Silicon Valley of the East and a UNESCO World Heritage site (30th and 31st March).
The overarching theme of this year’s ASEAN Festival is Sustainability and Development and it opens in Jakarta with academic, government and industry speakers from Business, Media, Communication, Tourism and Hospitality. The Keynote speaker is Bournemouth University alumni Professor Ir. Wiendu Nuryanti, MArch, PhD Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Yogyakarta Vice-Minister of Education and Culture for Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Education, Government of Indonesia (2011-2014). The Festival also features an opportunity for Indonesian students to learn more about BU and attend Master Classes from a range of experts.
MALAYSIA The Festival then proceeds to Penang where issues around Heritage, Health, Tourism and Hospitality will be explored by a range of experts from industry and education. Our Keynote Speaker is Professor Dato’ Dr. Morshidi Sirat the Founding Director of the Commonwealth Tertiary Education Facility (CTEF) based at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang. CTEF is a collaborative effort between MoHE and Commonwealth Secretariat (COMSEC) based in London. We have arranged a fantastic programme of keynotes, plenary sessions and cultural activities, covering topics ranging from tourism & business, marketing, science and journalism, social interactions, and leadership and innovative learning. The Festival concludes on the final day with a networking event and roundtable discussion on Investing in Skills & Talent: Spotlight on Tourism and Health.

Recruitment & Selection Challenges Knowledge Partners Bournemouth University The hospitality and tourism sector is the fourth-largest employer in the UK, with 10% of the workforce employed in 180,000 businesses, including independent restaurants, major hotel chains and visitor attractions. The latest figures reveal that more than two-fifths (43%) of workers in this sector are foreign nationals – mainly from the former eastern and southern European countries. The management of such a diverse and multicultural workforce poses significant challenges and great opportunities for hospitality businesses. Two recent industry reports by People 1st (2013; 2015) highlight the skills, productivity and retention problems in the hospitality sector. On the top of that, Brexit poses significant threats for the hospitality sector and its multicultural workforce. There is no doubt that the latest political developments will affect the UK Hospitality industry and possibly slow down the steady growth experienced in the past two decades. Comparative evaluation study of the websites of China-based and international luxury hotels

Abstract
Practitioners in the hotel industry constantly seek ways to improve their online and offline presence to improve their competitiveness and profitability. Consumers from different countries differ in their preferences for color, pictures, navigation, and site structure, which affect the performance of hotel websites. To connect industry efforts with consumer requirements, this study adopted a website usefulness framework to compare the websites of China-based luxury hotels with those of international luxury hotels. A fuzzy model was applied to analyze the data collected from online users. Findings of this study will be utilized to assess the perceptions of Chinese and international users and to compare the performance of the websites of China-based luxury hotels with those of international luxury hotels. Results show that Chinese and international consumers significantly differ in their perception of the usefulness performance of China-based and international luxury hotel websites.

Abstract
Market research suggests that organic food consumption in Europe is growing. The concept of dining out organically may therefore represent a promising business opportunity and yet little is known about how it is perceived by restaurant managers. This study reports on the outcome of a qualitative research conducted with managers of UK casual dining restaurants. It finds that restaurateurs are sceptical about the business feasibility of dining out organically which is viewed as a niche market with limited consumer appeal. This contradicts market research which questions the robustness of its findings. A new research stream looking at actual consumer behaviour, rather than attitudes, when dining out is necessary. Recommendations are devised to facilitate organic dining out in the UK.

FoodSMART is an innovative technical ICT solution which uses QR coding on your smartphone to provide nutritional information and deliver personalised advice when eating out. This means that consumers can make an informed choice about what they’re eating. The app can even be tailored to your individual dietary requirements or tastes. It can be quite difficult to eat healthily when in a restaurant or cafe, as menus often give you limited information about the ingredients in a meal. By working with partners across Europe- nutritionists, chefs and other universities- the team have developed an app that can show exactly what is in your meal. The app gives consumers all the data they need and encourages the food service industry to support healthier eating.
