Bournemouth offers so many exciting events for students to get involved in and although all of these are fantastic in their own way, for me the universities Summer Ball is by far the best day/night of the year. Some people are less interested in dressing up throughout the year, at least that’s the case for me sometimes but if you don’t swallow your pride and go all out here you’ll definitely be seen as the odd one out!! A theme of ‘anything goes’ means that you will always see some weird and wonderful ideas that people have come up with, some people even take weeks to design and make their costumes in a battle to become the best dressed.

This year the costumes got even better; extravagant safari animals, Aladdin with his magic carpet, Tin Tin and his dog, as well as hundreds of other wacky ideas. I dressed as a pirate and my friends went as pimps, Mr Men, prisoners, hawaiians, garden nymphs, Mr Motivator, minions from despicable me etc etc you get the idea 🙂 The funniest part was actually getting everybody together to dress up, such a good laugh!

Last year my favourite costumes were a group of students who went as LMFAO, robot head included. I dressed as an Oompa Loompa and I have to admit the costume took a little more effort but this is one of the best parts of the whole thing, especially when you need something to occupy your time after exams are over!!

Last year a few of my mates thought that they couldn’t really afford it or at least it wouldn’t be worth it. They couldn’t have been more wrong and as soon as the pictures got posted they were screaming at themselves for not going. Everyone who didn’t come last year came this year and all of them say it was the best event in Bournemouth they’ve been to so far.

My top tip is to make sure to get an early bird ticket if you’re on a shoestring budget, trust me the ticket is worth more than triple the price anyway!

So the question is… What will you be??
