TTRA 8-10 April 2019, #TTRAEurope2019 @ Bournemouth University Department of Tourism and Hospitality Tourism in the era of connectivity
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Travel and Tourism Research Association’s 2019 European Chapter Conference will be hosted by Bournemouth University Department of Tourism and Hospitality in Bournemouth Monday 8th to Wednesday 10th April 2019. This is a three-day conference that will include a doctoral colloquium day and industry best practice thread. The theme of the conference is Tourism in the era of connectivity and will cover a broad range of themes to ensure that we are inclusive of the widest range of tourism research.
People to people connectivity is an essential aspect of tourism; bringing people from all aspects of life together to meet, share moments and explore cultures, resources and experiences. Connectivity brings us together through shared routes, accessibility, communication, and experiences in different environments and destinations. Increasingly, global society is becoming more connected, facilitating opportunities for exchange and interaction, bringing both opportunities and challenges. Tourism is changing dramatically in the era of connectivity. Advanced technology enables users to amalgamate information and big data from various sources on their mobile devices, personalise their profile through applications and social networks, as well as interact dynamically with their surroundings and context. Tourism professionals increasingly use technologies and networking to bring different stakeholders together to co-create value for all. The conference will connect the different concepts of connectivity, personalisation, tourism development and marketing towards co-creation of the tourism experience. It will explore how these experiences can support the co-creation of value for all stakeholders and address a range of components of connectivity. Progress on Information Technology in Hospitality and Tourism –
Special issue call for papers from Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Technology
Abstract submission deadline: 15th March, 2018
Tourism and hospitality areas have been influenced by the rapid development of information technology (IT) in the last few decades (Law, Buhalis, & Cobanoglu, 2014). The fast development of internet has tremendously revolutionized the tourism and hospitality industries (Buhalis, 2003). Using internet, Web 1.0, and then Web 2.0/social media environments have effectively connected the travelers and tourists around the world from one hand, and the tourism and hospitality businesses from other hand much more than ever before (Buhalis & Law, 2008). The rapid development and adoption of IT in tourism and hospitality industries influenced on the behavior of consumers such as information search, purchase decision, and post-purchase behavior, as well as the suppliers marketing and management approaches (Law et al., 2014). Because of the important role of IT on the hospitality and tourism development, several studies have reviewed this role. For instance, Law et al., (2014) has reviewed 107 published papers related to IT in hospitality and tourism journals between 2009 and 2013. Moreover, Ip et al. (2011) reviewed IT papers from 1999 to 2008 published in hospitality journals, Leung and Law (2007) papers from 1985 to 2004, and Law et al. (2009) from 2005 to 2007 in 57 hospitality and tourism journals. However, all of these review papers generally focused on the progress of IT in tourism and hospitality areas, and have not focused on specific topics. Therefore, the current special issue aims to publish a collection of a number of critical review papers on the progress of IT in tourism and hospitality (up to 10-15 years), but in different specific topics.
Submissions related to the following topics are welcome
This issue welcome review papers on different aspects of hospitality and tourism technology. Each paper should be written as a review of literature on a particular topic. It will look at the progress of research within the topic from 30,000 feet view. It will review the previous (up to 10-15 years) and current research and reflect on future research. The purpose of this issue is to measure progress in a topic related to hospitality and tourism technology. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Progress on EWOM in hospitality and tourism
Progress on Robotics in hospitality and tourism
Progress on Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality in Tourism
Progress on E-Marketing in hospitality and tourism
