Georgina Sekadakis
Georgina moved over from Greece in 2007 and completed her BSc in International Tourism Management at Bournemouth University in 2010. During her summer holidays Georgina worked in Crete at a 5 star hotel.
Wanting to further her studies and deepen her knowledge of the tourism industry and specifically the marketing side, in September of 2010 she started her post graduate study in Tourism Management and Marketing at Bournemouth University.
Realising that her interests laid in marketing and especially in the impact Social Media is having decided to carry out research and base her thesis in this field. Supervised closely by Professor Dimitrios Buhalis, Georgina carried out research for the World Travel Market and identified a Best Practice Case Study for the adoption of Social Media for non profit organisations, “Social Media and Charity Promotions; the Best Practice Case Study of Just A Drop“. Her thesis is to be published in the New Year. Furthermore, Georgina represented the University at the World Travel Market in November 2011 and is volunteering in January 2012 to help Professor Buhalis at the International Federation for IT and Travel & Tourism conference.
During her post graduate study, she worked part time for a local restaurant website company in charge of all their Social Media activity as well as some online marketing.
Shortly after the completion of her MSc thesis, Georgina was offered full time employment in a hotel in Cyprus supervising their online marketing and customer relationships. Georgina is very interested in all aspects of Tourism and is a strong believer in the power of Social Media. She would eventually like to be involved with destination marketing.
