This Halloween, we’re shining a light (or maybe a flickering candle) on one of our favourite final projects from the MA 3D Computer Animation course: Roshan Radhakrishnan’s ‘The Mycromancer’, featuring Eldrin the Mycromancer, a hybrid human figure built with a realistic, unsettling edge.

Tell us about your final project.

For my final project, I chose to create a cinematic sequence featuring my original character, Eldrin the Mycromancer. My goal was to design a hybrid human character with a realistic aesthetic within a fantasy genre.

One of the most successful aspects of the project was the final sculpt, which greatly improved once I trusted the process of building strong forms and carefully following anatomical principles.

Where did the idea for a character like Eldrin come from?

During my second semester, I was tasked with sculpting an orc based on a provided reference image, and this project marked a turning point for me. Completing it made the idea of becoming a 3D character artist feel truly attainable and exciting, which ultimately inspired me to create an original character for my master’s final project.

What difference did the studio and equipment make?

Having my own workstation was an incredible experience… it allowed me to learn and take on projects like never before, without worrying about whether my PC could handle the workload.

Access to a 24/7 studio was a real gift, as it gave me the freedom to work long hours and consistently meet my deadlines.

What was it like getting feedback from industry professionals?

Being able to meet and speak with people who have worked on films, games, and TV shows I’ve watched and played since childhood was truly inspiring. Connecting with BU graduates who have gone on to succeed in the industry gave me even more confidence that I could achieve the same.

Haldor,in particular, was a major influence on my final project. After our first session, I received rigorous feedback that pushed me to restart my project from scratch and I’m extremely glad I did. Understanding and applying his feedback helped me recognise the level of detail and the high standards expected in the industry.

Looking back, how has the course changed you?

What surprised me the most was discovering my own potential and realizing how much I had been holding myself back. I never imagined I could achieve the projects I completed without this course and the people around me.

Any parting advice for new students?

Aim to improve a little each day, those small efforts add up over time. Put in the work, trust the process, and most importantly, enjoy the journey.
