Drew Hyndman – Volunteer of the Year Award 2025

Drew Hyndman, who graduated from BU with a BA (Hons) in Multimedia Journalism in 2019, is now Senior Content Producer at BBC Radio Solent. He received the Volunteer of the Year award from BU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alison Honour, as part of the graduation celebrations in 2025.

Drew’s award recognises his outstanding commitment to supporting BU students over the past year. He regularly returns to campus to take part in the annual Careers in Journalism event, has mentored final-year students, delivered online talks on neurodiversity and has championed the importance of disability inclusion in the media industry. He has also collaborated closely with BU on projects including hosting BBC radio podcasts that feature student contributions.

Drew said: “It’s an honour to be given this award. When I was a student, I really valued the time given up by professionals to inspire and guide us as we thought about careers. I’ve been more than happy to step into that role and give back. Thank you BU for the recognition.” 

Each year, one graduate is selected for the Alumni Volunteer of the Year Award in recognition of the positive impact their volunteering has had on BU students, particularly through activities that enrich the student experience and support employability.

Staff in the Faculty of Media, Science & Technology endorsed Drews nomination. They highlighted his enthusiasm, generosity with his time and the meaningful difference his guidance has made to students preparing for their careers. Drew continues to be a passionate advocate for inclusion within the industry and an inspiring role model for aspiring journalists.
