Dark winter evenings are here, meaning that safety when walking home has never been more important. Whether you are walking back from campus or at an event here are some useful tips to help make your journey back safely.

A few weeks ago the US Election night took place overnight so it is important to know the routes home as this meant travelling home at an unusual time.

At Bournemouth University, we have bus routes on campus that run regularly to the different accommodations and student areas like Winton. To ensure that students arrive home safely, buses run past the last lecture times.

One of the last buses to leave campus is past ten o’clock at night giving you plenty of time to travel home, some local services also run past this time too. So, if you need to stay on campus for a late-night library session there are plenty of routes for you to take back home. On Friday and Saturday, there is the N5 which runs during the night between campus and Bournemouth town centre via Winton and Charminster.

The most popular service that runs is the U1 bus is a frequent bus that runs from both campuses and to the accommodation on Lansdown.

If you are planning to go further, the U2 service takes students to Poole and this runs around every 30 minutes until later in the evening. The U3 also runs roughly every 30 minutes into student areas like Winton and Charminster.

Buses run frequently and you can plan your journey ahead on the UniBus timetable.

If you decide against public transport and would rather walk home after lectures, it is important to stay in well-lit areas. Downloading apps like Life360 or any other apps that you can share with a trusted friend or family member is important to ensure you get home safely.

Travelling home with your course mates is a good way to ensure that you make it home safely as well as planning ahead so you know what time the buses are if you are planning on staying on campus late.
