Bohan Liu is studying a Postgraduate Research degree within the Bournemouth University Business School.
We’ve asked her some questions about her experiences of this and what advice she has for anyone who is considering Postgraduate Research here at BU.
Why did you choose to undertake research at BU and what has attracted you to research this area?
Navigating the global academic terrain in search of the perfect university can be a daunting task, but look no further than Bournemouth University (BU). BU is globally recognised as a stronghold of excellence, particularly within its renowned tourism department. Our prestigious International Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research leads the world in its field, making BU an irresistible choice for aspiring scholars.
Tell us about your research
My research journey at BU is dedicated to understanding Asian female tourists’ travel behaviour, focusing on their travel constraints and the interpretations they draw from their travel experiences. This quest for knowledge aligns with the global pursuit for gender equality and reduced inequality, as championed by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. At BU, we’re not just about learning – we’re about using our knowledge to inspire change and create a more equitable world.
What do you like the most here at BU?
Life at BU is a harmonious blend of intellectual stimulation and cultural enrichment. BU’s commitment to scientific and social science innovation is palpable in its academic fabric. With its modern infrastructure and cutting-edge facilities, BU provides a conducive learning environment that cultivates the growth of each student. The seminars are a rich source of knowledge, and provide the necessary foundation for Postgraduate Research (PGR) students to prepare them for their journey towards academic distinction.
What would your advice be to anyone thinking of becoming Postgraduate Research student at BU
BU’s motto, “to learn is to change,” encapsulates the transformative journey that every student undertakes here. For prospective PGR students considering BU, you’re not only signing up for an academic adventure, but also embarking on a journey of self-discovery. The university nurtures a supportive and inclusive atmosphere. The academic staff, with their wealth of knowledge, foster an environment conducive to learning. They aren’t just your teachers; they become friends guiding you through your academic voyage. Your peers too, become an extension of your family, offering help when needed and cheering on your achievements.
However, a word of caution to those about to embark on this journey: like the unpredictable weather in Bournemouth, your study journey too may be filled with variations. There will be days of unbridled joy akin to sunny mornings, times of challenge reminiscent of windy afternoons, and moments of immense satisfaction, much like witnessing a glorious sunset. Nontheless, it’s essential to remember that the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. So, embrace each day with an open mind and a resilient spirit. At Bournemouth University, you’re not just earning a degree; you’re growing, learning, and transforming – and that’s a journey well worth taking.
