So Winton is the little area halfway between BU and Lansdowne (where all the first year halls are in town). Basically, most people tend to live in Winton in a shared house for second and final year whether that’s on Alma Road or Frederica. And even though we all reminisce about our ‘halls of residence days’, Winton has still hosted some of my favourite memories at uni!

First of all, for those looking at renting a house in Winton, make sure you book in a few houses with a couple of different estate agents so you can get in as many viewings in as possible. This way, you can get a better understanding of the types of houses in the area. Also, consider how long it will take you to get to university, especially as you’ll be walking there most days.

Even though where I live on Alma Road is considered quite far out, I don’t mind the walk in which takes around 25 minutes. Whereas, I know some people might only want around a 10 minute walk. If this is you, definitely look around the Frederica side of the high-street. I remember the hassle of going to view houses ready for second year and not knowing the area at all or which way uni was, so hopefully that helps!

Winton’s also great because it’s still walking distance to the train station, a bus ride into town, or a cab to Cameo! The high-street has so many shops for you to do your food shop at Lidl, Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and more – take your pick. For those who enjoy getting their nails and hair done, there’s places for that too. Oh and don’t worry about saying goodbye to Sprinkles, it has one of them too. You don’t even need to head into town for a night out… why not start the night at one of Winton’s many pubs or start at your house and then head to Buffalo?

Winton is very different to living in halls on Lansdowne, but it’s equally great and I think if you do it right, it can be your best years at uni! If anyone has any questions, leave a comment and I’ll get back to you asap!
