Bournemouth University students will work throughout the night to provide live coverage of the US Presidential Election across TV, radio and online platforms.
The USA Votes 2016 project will be shared across a range of platforms, including a dedicated website and livestreams of broadcast coverage.
BA (Hons) Multimedia Journalism student Abi Simpson is editor for the project’s radio content.
She said: “On the night we are hoping to broadcast live results, analysis, interviews and give an insight into what’s going on in the US, how this might affect us here in the UK, and the impact on the world in general depending on the outcome of the votes.
“I think from a listener’s perspective we are hoping to achieve informative, interesting, engaging and a slightly less serious version of the election. We are students and not the BBC after all, and we do want to put our own stamp on the coverage.”
The USA Votes 2016 project is being run in partnership with several US universities and a team of reporters will also broadcast live from Washington DC.
It follows successful student-led coverage of both the 2012 US election and the UK General Election in 2015.
“I took part in YourElection15 when I was a fresher, and it was by far the best experience I’ve had at university,” said Abi.
“I loved every minute of it. I felt like a real professional and it definitely boosted my passion for journalism.
“Now as a final year, I hope to test out everything I’ve learnt during my time at Bournemouth University and produce some quality journalism, with some quality people.”
She added: “We are hoping to make the most of the rare opportunity of working with people from other courses and years, meeting all the guests and interviewees on the night, and generally just having a lot of fun and make the most of being right in the middle of this world event.”
