It’s been another busy week for the askBU team. You’ve been asking all sorts of questions, from asking about our Open Days to finding out about scholarships. Here are some answers to your top questions…

  1. I’m interested in studying a foundation course at BU, can you help?

We offer a range of foundation degrees, many of which are delivered through our partner colleges. Even if you don’t study at a BU campus for your degree, your final award will still be from BU.  Please click here for more information.

2. I’m interested in studying either your Film Production & Cinematography or Photography course, where would my studies be based?

These courses are delivered at the Wiltshire College Salisbury, a BU Partner College. All aspects of your course from teaching, accommodation and student life will be based at the above partner college. On graduation from this course you will receive a degree from Bournemouth University. You would be welcome to book onto an Open Day  at Wiltshire College Salisbury to gain a full understanding of the course and location.

3. What happens at an Undergraduate Open Day and when can I book my place to attend?

These days are a great opportunity for you to ask questions about your course of interest, attend specific course talks, visit a wide variety of exhibition stands, both academic and non-academic, chat with the academic teams, tour the campus, visit a variety of our accommodation facilities, find out information on fees and funding, and learn more about student life at BU.

You can join us for an Open Day this autumn on either Saturday 24 October, Saturday 31 October, or Saturday 21 November. Please click here to register your details.

4. I have booked to attend one of your Undergraduate Open Days, but as I’ll be travelling long distance, does BU provide overnight accommodation?

That’s great to hear you’ll be visiting BU this Autumn!  I’m sorry we’re unable to help with providing accommodation during your visit to Bournemouth.  However, you’ll be able to find lots of information about local accommodation by visiting Bournemouth Tourist Information.

The majority of our courses are based at Talbot Campus. Just 3 miles away, there is a Premier Inn as well as the Bournemouth Westcliff Hotel.  For our Health and Social Care courses (excluding Nutrition and Sociology) you’ll be based at our Lansdowne Campus, and you’ll find a Travelodge and Premier Inn situated in Christchurch Road, approximately a 10 minute walk.   We look forward to meeting you!

5. I’m interested in being considered for one of your UK scholarships and bursaries, can you help?

We offer a wide range of scholarships that are available for undergraduate students to reward academic excellence, and your musical or sporting talents. You can apply for more than one scholarship, if you meet the requirements, however, you will only be awarded one, if you are successful. In addition, we offer two bursaries designed to offer extra financial support for those from low income households or care leavers.  For more information please click here.

6. I am planning on studying joint Honours, I was wondering if your university offered these?

The only joint subjects we offer are listed on our website, such as BA (Hons) Business Studies with Law and BA (Hons) Sociology and Criminology. We do not currently offer the opportunity to combine two different degrees. For more information about our courses, please click here.
