Summer Ball, it’s the event that you wait all year for, but what makes the best Summer Ball experience?

First things first, the costume; pirates and ninjas or heroes and villains, the possibilities are endless. Whether there are five or fifteen of you, there is a theme you can follow. Or if you are your own man, fly the solo flag. Buying costumes from the shops can be expensive so always check Ebay to see if you can get one a lot cheaper.

Secondly, you are allowed to buy a maximum of four tickets, check with your friends from back home if they want to come because realistically, the more the merrier and it’s good to mix your new uni friends with the ones you have from home.

Then you need to decide on pre drinks; where will they be held and what songs are going on that infinite playlist. (Side note: don’t drink too much before leaving for the actual event as you will not be allowed on the bus)

So you have your costume, you have your ticket, pre drinks has finished and you have arrived at the ball, what’s next?

Scour the beer tents to find the one with the quickest service (usually the one the furthest from the entrance), get yourself a drink (or two) and chill out on the grass with the sun shining down on you. Spend the whole night enjoying the music, free fun fair, atmosphere and potentially making new friends.

Top tips for making it to survivors

  1. Pace yourself, don’t peak to early on in the day
  2. Take extra money than what you want to spend, just incase
  3. Keep an eye on your belongings at all times, it’s too easy to lose something when you are not paying attention
  4. Keep an eye on your friends, make sure you have at least one person with you at all times, it is too easy to lose someone
  5. Try and beat the bus rush at the end, aim to leave before the last act to not have to queue for hours

Ultimately Summer Ball is about having fun and celebrating the end of the year, whether you are a first year or a fourth year it is for sure an experience not to miss.
