In June 2017, I was working full time in an administration role and considering what steps I could take to progress my career. I wasn’t sure what my end goal was but knew I needed a challenge. After deciding that I wanted to study a degree, I attended an Open Day. Upon speaking to some academic staff I decided the online BA (Hons) Global Business Management course was for me. This was mainly due to being a mature student (29 at the time) and the financial worries of leaving a full-time job for three years.

My experience of the course has been fantastic. The content of each unit is distinct yet all units can be linked to each other to create a solid overall understanding.

Tutors are very good at replying to queries, either by direct email, discussion boards or online classrooms.

There is a good amount of independent learning needed and you therefore have to have very refined time management from the word go! You soon get to understand why extra reading and research is needed!

During my time at BU, I have also had the honour of being Student Rep for all levels and this year I have been Programme Rep. This allowed me to connect with my cohort more and work with SUBU, the Students’ Union, to help inform and create changes for future students.

The opportunities and resources available at BU are brilliant. One of my worries was that being an online student I wouldn’t have access to some of the services that BU offer. I have, however, used the careers service many times via email, phone and Skype. The library has an online chat facility as well as almost all books being available as e-books. If you are able to come onto campus you have full access to all the facilities and the library is second to none.

I would urge anyone who wants to gain a degree in Business Management to apply for the online course at BU. Its flexibility and content is second to none.

I will be sad to end my journey with BU, a journey that has inspired and assisted in developing a solid career path for me. My next step is a Master’s in Human Resource Management.
