Ricky Santos, a BA (Hons) Scriptwriting foRicky Santosr Film and Television student, has won a national radio script writing competition.

Ricky, 29, was one of five finalists in Creating Waves 2016, a competition to write a radio ad on the subject of National Accident Helpline’s Accident Awareness Week.

Ricky, who was a finalist in last year’s Creating Waves competition, said: “I’m very pleased to have won this year after coming so close last year.

“It’s reassuring to know that my work is appreciated and I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing my script brought to life in the studio. I’m excited to see what new prospects the future brings because of this competition.”

Ricky has won a work placement with Global, the media and entertainment group which is home to some of the UK’s best loved radio brands including Heart, Capital, Capital XTRA, Classic FM, Smooth, LBC, Radio X and Gold. He will also have his script made into a real life ad with professional voice actors.

Simon Forster, Regional Creative Director at Global, is one of the judges for Creating Waves. He said that Ricky’s script stood out from the crowd because of its: “Clear target audience, humour and clear call to action.” He added that the script had a “strong concept” and was “well written”.

Darran Askew, 32 and studying on the same course as Ricky at Bournemouth, was also chosen as a finalist. He said: “Our lectures at Bournemouth University are constantly encouraging us to enter competitions.

“Their advice is sound, as it can afford great opportunities like the Creating Waves competition.”

Before being chosen as winner, Ricky and three of the other finalists took a tour of Global’s famous studios in London’s Leicester Square.
