Ahh, Christmas!! The one thing everyone is waiting for with bated breath now University is in full flow and you’ve got deadlines and class tests every week. Once you hand in your last piece of work, or put that last full stop at the end of your final test, the feeling of freedom is inexplicable. So, here’s a quick rundown of things to do and look forward to in the days leading up to Christmas in Bournemouth.

If you are staying in BU accommodation then you can be sure at least half of your Christmas will be sorted. The Res Life people from the accommodation organise plenty of events like free Ice Skating and roast dinners with people from other flats to make sure you get fully into the Christmas spirit. Of course, you could have your very own Christmas dinner and “secret santa” with your flatmates – nothing beats a celebration with your own little family, trust me.

While you are at it, the town offers plenty of things to look forward to and get involved with. Pop down to the Town Centre whenever you feel like it, there are hardly any places as beautiful and vibrant as Bournemouth Square at Christmas, all lit up with the array of stalls and the Christmas tree in the middle. Get some seasonal gifts for your friends and family, have a bite of one of the range of sausages available and get a taste of traditional mulled wine.

Then there’s the Lower Gardens close by, which get a festive transformation with about 23000 lights all lit up at the same time. So take a stroll amidst the trees decorated with fairy lights and the snowflake projections on the walkways. Safe to say, this town is well and truly in the festive mood until the New Year, and it will never let you get bored and you’ll never have enough of it. Exciting isn’t it? Even more for people like me who are not originally from the UK and generally do not get to see this season celebrated in such a huge way.
