The thing I enjoy most about BU life is that you’re able to join in with a number of social activities which enhance your studies.
During my Master’s degree studies I took up the opportunity to go on a placement year and worked at one of the best seaside hotels in Bournemouth, but have also been involved in lots of volunteering activities. One of my proudest achievements is helping to raise donations of over 1.5 tonnes of food for charity. All of these experiences have helped me make the most of my time at BU as well as developed my communication and interpersonal skills.
My arrivals advice
I live in a flat with other BU students, and one of the first things we did was check what kitchen appliances and utensils we had brought with us. Then we knew what we had lots of and what we needed so we could go shopping together. There’s a large supermarket at the Lansdowne Campus, and Castlepoint Shopping Centre has two supermarkets as well as lots of other shops and cafes.
I always find guest lectures interesting and informative so I recommend you go along to any that are scheduled for your course or area of interest. It’s exciting to meet academics and professionals who are experts in their field, and to discuss contemporary issues with them – it’s helped me to gain valuable understanding of my studies.
