Nikhil Thapar’s journey is a compelling story of ambition, global learning, and purpose-driven leadership. A graduate of Bournemouth University’s MSc Sport Management programme, Nikhil chose his academic path with clear intent—to gain not only a world-class education but also practical insight into the evolving sports industry.
Choosing BU was a strategic decision. Its globally accredited Business School ensured academic excellence, while its strong industry integration—particularly links with organisations such as AFC Bournemouth—provided invaluable real-world exposure. Through case studies, guest lectures, and applied learning, Nikhil gained direct insight into how elite clubs operate commercially and strategically.
This hands-on approach helped him understand not only the theory of sport management but also the practical realities of running successful sports organisations. A key influence from BU was its focus on the future of sport. Modules centred on digital marketing, fan engagement, and data analytics opened Nikhil’s perspective to how technology is transforming the global sports landscape. This forward-thinking curriculum inspired him to envision a more professional, tech-enabled approach to sports management—something he later carried into his work in India. The international environment at BU also allowed him to collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds, strengthening his global outlook and adaptability.
Following his studies, Nikhil gained professional experience in the UK with organisations such as Savers, Merkur Slots, and Chelsea FC. Each role contributed to his understanding of business operations, customer engagement, and the professional standards expected in competitive industries. However, rather than continuing along a traditional career path within established sports organisations, Nikhil made a bold and defining decision to return to India.
Armed with the knowledge and confidence gained from his BU education, he identified a significant gap in grassroots football infrastructure in Chhattisgarh. Determined to make a difference, he founded Bilaspur Football Club, where he now serves as Founder and President. His goal is not just to build a club, but to create a sustainable ecosystem that nurtures young talent and elevates the standard of football in the region. For Nikhil, the most meaningful aspect of his work lies in community impact. Developing local players and contributing to the professionalisation of sport in his region offers a deeper sense of purpose than any previous role.
His journey highlights how education, when paired with vision and courage, can lead to transformative change. He also champions the use of technology to tell authentic stories. By documenting progress through high-quality digital content, he builds credibility and visibility for his initiatives.
For Nikhil, storytelling is not just about recognition—it is about inspiring others and demonstrating the power of grassroots development. Nikhil Thapar’s journey is a testament to how Bournemouth University can empower graduates to think globally, act boldly, and create lasting impact where it matters most.
