My name is Maya Sengupta. I originally applied for Midwifery at a range of different universities including Bournemouth, however, I now study Adult Nursing at Bournemouth University.

I entered BU through clearing as I didn’t get enough UCAS points for the course that I initially wanted but I settled on Nursing as it’s the closest thing to the course I originally wanted, and it was still in the medical field.

I never attended a Clearing Open Day because personally my whole Clearing process felt a bit rushed, and I didn’t have the time to spare. Another factor that affected the Clearing process was trying to find accommodation. Due to getting accepted late, all the student halls accommodation was fully booked for the year. This led to me having to find alternative options for accommodation.

I was lucky enough to find a room in a 5-bedroom house sharing with a group of second-year students through Facebook. Although this wasn’t the traditional first-year accommodation experience I enjoyed it thoroughly and have managed to get a room in a student accommodation block for the second year so that I have not missed out on that part of my university experience.

All in all, although this wasn’t what I wanted on results day 2022 I have enjoyed my first year at Bournemouth, despite having some lows and facing some challenges which I’ve learned is common living at university and away from the comfort of home.

I have made some lifelong friends, made some amazing memories, learned a lot and I joined the trampoline society which helped boost my confidence as well as going to a competition has given me an experience I will never forget.
