Hi! I am Sujata Shekhawat from India and I am studying MA Media and Communication. It is true that we all go to University to study, do assignments, presentations and exams, but I believe that university life should not be limited to only studying. It is always good to learn something new and be part of something that you enjoy. Joining the clubs and societies at Bournemouth University is the best way to meet like-minded people and a great opportunity to explore new things.
Bournemouth has lot of clubs and societies classified into different categories:
Academic societies
There are thirty-six academic societies, which cover almost all the subjects and disciplines that we have at Bournemouth. I was so happy, as there’s something for everyone. Some of the examples are a PR society, a law society, marketing and robotics.
Cultural
We all love culture, and studying at a foreign university gives you an opportunity to learn about new cultures. BU has eighteen cultural societies including the Italian, Chinese, Spanish, Indian, Turkish and Nigerian societies. If you are interested in another country then it is best to find out about it by joining that particular country group.
Faith
There are 5 faith societies and many students like to practice their faith or religion whilst at university. It is always great to share thoughts, ideas and meet with like-minded people.
Arts and performance
If you have a passion for music and dancing and it is what you love the most then don’t worry as you will be able to practice it at university! There are seven art and performance societies.
Political and campaigning
If you care deeply about something or support a particular cause, then you can join these groups and meet people who have the same opinion as yours. The eight political and campaigning societies give you a chance to continue to work for the causes that you are passionate about.
Special interest
If you have a special interest and you would love to continue it, BU has a solution for that as well; there are twenty-six societies for people with specific interests such as Disney, Harry Potter, first aid, meditation and even a baking society.
Sports
If you are an athlete or a sports lover, there are forty-seven sports societies for you. There are clubs for almost every sport that one can think of: Cricket, Volleyball, Polo, Table Tennis and so on. There are also special clubs like Climbing, Trampolining, Surfing and Yoga.
So as soon as you join Bournemouth University, I’d recommend joining some clubs and societies to meet new people, explore new interests and have an exciting time.
