During my time at Bournemouth University, I undertook a year of placements, and on one of these that worked for I won award and this is my story.

Hi my name is Sebastian Saxena, I am a BA (Hons) Media Production student in my final year. Firstly I began my placement year in a company called Truffle Social for a month in London, and gained lots of  experience in a big social media company, which looked after big clients such as Julien Macdonald. Some of the roles I was doing there were running for small jobs, editing videos and photos.

Secondly I furthered my experience in a company called NSCC, (National Slimming Cosmetic Clinics) in a marketing department making videos for their surgeries, trials and clinics. I took before and after photos of their treatments to show clients, too. I also made training videos for clients that, after their slimming treatment, they could then watch at home, instead of going to the gym, as most were mothers or grandmothers.

I finally started working for Bournemouth Borough Council (Parks Division). This was my favourite out of all three. I had lots of freedom, to make content for their parks, cafes and events they held in and around Bournemouth. I got to work with such great staff; like Rob Allardyce, Natalie Tye and Andy Macdonald.

At the beginning I got to work on a huge project for this separate department called Britain in Bloom. This is a huge horticultural society, who invite towns to compete in flower, gardens and tree displays around the UK. I was luckily enough to work first-hand with a man called Chris Colledge, who is the head of the board for Bournemouth in Bloom. Chris asked me to make a short video, displaying the work that the judges may not get to see around the judging route. Lots of the committee were pleased with my effort at making this video for the judges, and Chris let me tag along to all the events to help set the video up on the TV and also gave me thankful appraisal at the end of every one, too.

Moreover I was invited to the Britain in Bloom Awards Ceremony, where I showed the video again, and actually won myself a special award. I was grateful for the award. It was completely unexpected, however, was glad I could help the community to the best of my ability, after a long tiring journey, creating this video for Chris Colledge and for Britain in Bloom. I would never had this experience, if it wasn’t for the help of the Bournemouth University placement programme. Thanks especially to Vianna Renaud for organising all my placement information.
