Booking an Open Day is the most valuable thing you can do when picking a University. Looking at the website and photos can only give you so much information about the course/location/accommodation, but if you really want to immerse yourself in parts of Uni life, you must book an Open Day!

Luckily, Bournemouth University have various Open Days coming up over the next few months.

When you visit there will be lots of student ambassadors – all from a variety of years – all ready to answer any questions or to give you campus tours (look out for them in the pink hoodies!).

Whatever your favoured course is, going to the lecture talks will you give you an amazing insight into the course, assessments, careers, the lectures and lecturers themselves, and what current students say. For me, I was fortunate to have a great and engaging lecturer (that I have this year!) give the talk, and that was one of the reasons Bournemouth won me over. You’ll also get a feel of sitting in a lecture, because it is a big change from sitting in a classroom with people you have known for years!

Additionally, you will be able to get more of an insight on those ‘extras’ at uni. These could include:

  • Clubs
  • Societies
  • Places to eat and drink.
  • Sport facilities (including the gym)
  • Study areas and facilities.

    On the uni bus

Finally, there are regular bus tours on the Open Days taking you and your parents between the two campuses, so you can view the accommodation right in the heart of Bournemouth. I think everyone enjoys looking around the halls (remember to check out the brand new Halls ‘Homepark’!) to see where they might be spending their first year at University, and to check out all the facilities they have.

So good luck, and book yours today!
