University life offers you a whole new world of opportunities and I’d say it’s best to get involved from the start. Your first semester at university is the best time to try something new and really get prepared for the rest of your studies in Bournemouth.
Joining clubs and societies is a great way to make new friends and stay busy. Many students will miss home a lot during their first semester and this is a great way to keep you distracted whilst having fun and experiencing something new. Whether it involves sports, charity work or even a movie club, just get stuck in!
Bournemouth, and the Dorset area, in general have so much to offer to visitors and new students. Make use of your first semester by exploring the town, going to the gorgeous sandy beach we have on our doorstep and definitely visit the New Forest! There’s always something to do here or a place to visit so it’s guaranteed you won’t get bored.
If nights out are your thing, then make sure you try them all. Bournemouth is well known for its nightlife and it tends to be a big part of socialising when you begin university. If you love going out, don’t just stick to the same club every week, try going to all the different clubs and bars in Bournemouth and that way you’ll find your favourites. Aruba, is surprisingly a great night out!
The best way to make the most of your first semester at university is to make sure you keep on top of your work, completing it before the deadlines. Schedule time for your reading when it’s set and get your assignments done in plenty of time. This means you’ll be less stressed and you can make the most of your free time and weekends. Plus, no one wants to fall behind right at the start of the year!
The first semester of uni is the best time to budget. Use this time to work out how much you spend on food shopping, socialising and books. This then leaves you more financially prepared for the rest of your time at uni and you can easily manage your finances.
The most important thing to remember about making the most of your first semester is to enjoy yourself. It’s a fun, exciting and relatively stress free time so put yourself out there and enjoy yourself!
