We’re very #BUproud of two of our graduates, who are celebrating being featured in the Product Design journal “Develop3D” with their brand-new Freefly VR headset, designed specifically to bring virtual reality to the masses using smartphone technology.
Mark Little and Luke Vos both graduated from the MSc Product Design course in 2008 and became close friends during their time at BU. After working together on a sports product in 2010, they set up their company, LUMA-iD Ltd, in October 2012, with Freefly being their flagship design.
We spoke to Mark who had this to say about their success: “We are really proud of the product we have designed and we hope to bring VR to the masses. This project pushed our assembly and moulding knowledge as well as new skills acquired in lens design, adhesion, UI design, and Android applications. It has also been a challenge to design a product that is easily adjustable to fit the wide array of smartphones, but also allow a one-click access to the phone screen for easy navigation. Myself and Luke discussed having our own design consultancy business over a pint or two whilst at Bournemouth and, needless to say, we haven’t looked back!”
