The askBU team has been even busier than usual this week! There have been lots of questions from those of you wanting to join us this September, so here are some answers…

What is Clearing?

Clearing is the final part of the university admissions process. It’s organised by UCAS in July and August and is the final opportunity to find a place at university for the coming September. During Clearing, universities will open up their courses with vacancies and accept more students.  For more details please click here.

This year, Clearing at BU starts from Monday 6 July. Please visit the UCAS website for more details.

What happens if I don’t meet the conditions of my offer?

Please try not to worry too much – we always look at applications as a whole and not just the academic profile. Your offer is tailored to the subject you have chosen to study, but we realise this may not match your predicted grades precisely. We’ll try to take as many new students as possible who have achieved the overall tariff score, but may not have achieved the exact offer conditions, provided we feel that they stand the best chance of succeeding on the course.

At this stage, please just focus on your studies. Once you have received your results, feel free to phone us here at askBU for further help.

Please could I transfer to BU in September 2015?

We may consider transfers from other universities.  All late and Extra applications are now closed, but you will still be able to see which of our courses are available through Clearing.

I haven’t received my email to confirm payment for my accommodation, have I missed the 48 hour deadline?

We’re sorry if there has been a slight delay with these emails, but there’s nothing to worry about. The 48 hour deadline will commence from the time you receive the email.  For further details please click here.

I have transferred on to the third year of a degree course. Can I apply for bursaries?

You can still apply for bursaries, but you would be classed as a third year student. Bursaries are prioritised for those just starting their degrees, so while you are welcome to apply you would be less likely to get a bursary than a new student would be. If you’re applying for a bursary in any year other than your first, you can apply here.

If there’s anything else you’d like to know, just leave us a comment.

      Hi Lori,

Sorry to hear you’re worried, but please don’t be! Are you awaiting your results at the moment? And have you already applied to study at BU for this September? If you want to chat more about your options, you can contact the askBU team.

And please don’t worry – enjoy your summer!

I am trying to book my accommodation but all houses seem to be full. I do not understand how can this be possible, as only students with an unconditional offer are able to book their accommodation by now.

      Hi Celia,

Great to hear that you’re joining us in September! We have three different release periods for accommodation, each with a fair proportion of accommodation split across them, with enough rooms for all applicants. It’s then first come, first served to actually book a room. For the current release, there are still rooms available in Corfe House and the Student Village (female only) and BU Managed Houses (Unilet).

There’s more information about applying for accommodation on our website.

      I hope that helps!

Hi Elias. Great to see you’re interested in studying at BU! If English is not your first language, you will need to provide evidence that you can understand English to a satisfactory level. English language requirements vary for each course. Please email askbuenquiries@bournemouth.ac.uk with the course you are interested in and they will be able to advise on the entry requirements for that course. Thanks.
