RoshanIt gives me great pleasure to be able to write this blog post, for being awarded the BU Vice-Chancellor’s Most Promising Applicant (BTEC) scholarship.

In my opinion anyone can go to university, but what makes you stand out is the interesting things you can add to your CV.

For me, Bournemouth was one of the best decisions I have made, because not only is it one of the leading universities for my industry (media/journalism), but it also offers a variety of scholarships to those who are willing to go the extra mile. And by that I mean the scholarships on offer are for those who have worked hard in college to secure good grades, as well as those who worked hard by doing extra things in their community too.

Prior to my application for university, I had always hoped to get a scholarship, as I thought it would be good to have on my CV. But being awarded this scholarship and knowing that I am the only person in my academic year to have it is pretty awesome if you ask me. What’s also a plus is that this scholarship provides you with a tuition fee waiver for your first year. We all know university isn’t cheap, so this is definitely a bonus, while being motivational as well. Having this scholarship encourages me when I feel like everything is crashing down, because it acts as a reminder of all my capabilities.

It may seem like a bit of a task to have to sell yourself in 300 words as part of the application process, but you wouldn’t be applying to university if you weren’t capable of a little hard work – so go for it! Honestly, I never thought I’d get the scholarship; I thought it would have gone to someone whose dad owned the Press Gazette or something and had more outstanding experience, but I took the risk – and you should too.

So even if you don’t think you’ll get it, you’ve got nothing to lose by applying. So good luck and I’ll see you next year!
